Asked for a line or two about what kind of photos I shoot, I wrote “my pictures are often taken at the edge of town, and if they’re about anything, it’s the mix of industrial and rural activity going on there.”
And that seems to be where I’m at for now. Far more capable photographers have got the Natural Scenic Wonders of the Pacific Northwest ™ angle covered, and although I’m not ruling it out, I’m not sure I’m ready to wade into Eugene’s street scene. So I’m touring the outskirts and the industrial districts, looking for signs of the changing economic landscape in the actual geographic landscape.
Or, in less elevated but more honest terms, looking for good pictures.

My problem is that the eclectic nature of what I shoot can’t be reduced to a sentence, or an elevator speech (unless it was a particularly tall building) and that frustrates me. Perhaps nailing that brief would help me concentrate…

Yes, your work is eclectic, and it’s liberating to see that some of the best photographers don’t confine themselves to one theme or approach. I’m so happy I came across your blog, and will happily read what I guess amounts to your “very tall building” elevator speech. 🙂
Lately I’ve realized there’s a practical reason I want to narrow my focus–so I can head out with something like a plan, instead of driving around with my head on a swivel causing accidents. The beauty of that practical approach is that the focus can change daily if needed.
As with everything else, all I can do is keep going and see what happens. Thank you so much for taking the time to comment on my blog (which I obviously neglect).
